Our Specialties

Our primary specialty is caring for the health and well-being of mothers and babies. We have been innovators in women’s health for more than 30 years. Historically, Woman’s is known for the innovative utilization of minimally invasive surgical techniques. Many of our physicians are pioneers in gynecologic surgery and urogynecology and serve as instructors in these techniques helping to spread their wealth of knowledge to other physicians world-wide.

Urogynecology
The Woman’s Hospital of Texas is one of the few hospitals in the country that offers specialty care in urogynecology. The field of Urogynecology (a subspecialty within Obstetrics and Gynecology) is dedicated to the treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders such as urinary or fecal incontinence and prolapse (bulging) of the vagina, bladder and/or the uterus. After completing residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urogynecologists undergo fellowship training where they spend several years focusing only on these disorders.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
The Woman’s Hospital of Texas offers patients the option of minimally invasive surgical procedures. Some of our physicians pioneered the minimally invasive techniques used today to speed recovery time and reduce scarring. Depending upon the procedure; many patients are able to resume normal activities within a week as opposed to a four-to-six week recovery time with more traditional surgical methods. Since minimally invasive surgery requires only tiny incisions there is less scarring, less trauma to the body, less blood loss and a reduced need for pain medication. Many minimally invasive surgical procedures can be done on an outpatient basis.

Please find below a partial list of the minimally invasive surgeries performed at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. Not every person is able to benefit from minimally invasive surgery. Consult your physician to determine if your health issue can be addressed using a minimally invasive procedure. This list does not include every procedure. If your procedure is not listed, please consult your physician or for a physician referral please call 281-GET-HELP.

Minimally invasive surgery (sometimes called laparoscopic surgery) is done through small incisions. Using specialized techniques, miniature cameras with microscopes, tiny fiber-optic flashlights and high definition monitors, Mayo Clinic surgeons in many specialties perform surgery through an incision that requires only a stitch or two to close.

For patients, minimally invasive surgery means fewer traumas to the body, less blood loss, smaller surgical scars and less need for pain medication. Patients leave the hospital sooner after minimally invasive surgery and return to normal activities sooner than with conventional open surgery.
